Fort Lewis Aquatics Programs for Soldiers and Families
Kimbro Pool
Kimbro pool is a 100' x 50' swimming pool that features two water slides and a wheel chair ramp for the disabled. We offer recreational swimming and fitness training. The pool can be rented on the weekends for birthday parties.
- Recreation swimming is offered for both adults and families. We offer equipment like water slides to enhance the experience.
- Fitness training which includes adult lap swimming, water walking and deep water running with special flotation belts we provide.
- Adult and Children’s swim lessons are offered at a variety of times.
- Family pool party rentals on weekends.
- Available for youth or school groups.
Soldiers Field House Pool
SFH pool is a 25 meter swimming pool with a separate diving well that features a 1m spring board, a 3m platform, and water lifts to assist patron with entry/exit of pool. We offer fitness training, unit & profile PT training, Pregnant profile PT, MAMC physical therapy, ROTC water training, water aerobics, deep water running, and post swim meet competitions.
- Fitness training which includes adult lap swimming, water walking and deep water running with special flotation belts we provide.
- Unit PT is conducted by our instructors. Swimmers and non-swimmers are challenged with a vigorous workout.
- Water Aerobics and deep water running classes are conducted by our staff for a wide variety of patrons.
- Physical therapy classes are conducted by MAMC personnel.
- Recreation swimming is offered to soldiers and adults.
- Adult swim lessons are offered at a variety of times.
Keeler Pool
Keeler pool is a 100' x 50' swimming pool that features a 3 meter platform for unit training. We offer military training, Fort Lewis Dolphin youth swim team, scuba and kayak training. The pool can be rented on the weekends for military training.
- PT for units conducted by our instructors offers challenges to both skilled and non-swimmers alike.
- Water survival is a two hour class providing a broad spectrum of instruction including how drowning occurs, prevention, equipment issues and cold water survival techniques.
- Dunker training simulators used for training soldiers to survive a Humvee or a Stryker immersion accident.
- Swim tests for various requirements.
- Unit Swimming lessons in conjunction with military swim tests.
- Lifeguarding classes for units conducting water operations.
- Specialized training conducted by a variety of units or groups from a spectrum of government agencies.
- A USA Swimming certified coach leads the youth swim team.
- Kayak and sport SCUBA certification is conducted through the Adventure center.
Pool Schedules
MILITARY TRAINING
PT
• Workout is conducted in shallow water (3½ft. - 5ft.).
• Uniform: a swimsuit and/or PT grays and a towel. Shorts should have a drawstring. T-shirts OK.
• Workout: 5 min. warm-up, 50 min. various exercises (water running, swimming, push-ups, crunches, dips, etc.), and 5 min. cool down.
• POC will let Instructors know the intensity level desired.
• Instructors will run PT with a minimum of 15 personnel.
• The deep end is also available for strong swimmers.
Profile PT
• Class is designed for soldiers who have profiles. It is conducted primarily in deep water and occasionally in shallow water.
• Uniform: a swimsuit and/or PT grays and a towel. Shorts should have a drawstring. T-shirts OK. • Equipment provided: Aqua Jogger Belt, kickboard, water dumbbells, and noodles.
• Workout: 5 min. warm-up, 50 min. various exercises (water running, swimming, and using equipment for resistance), and 5 min. cool down.
• Instructors will run PT with a minimum of 5 personnel.
Fort Lewis 350-1 Swim Test
• Conducted in deep end (6ft. – 13ft.) of pool.
• Uniform: ACU’s, boots, LBV, a dummy M-16 (rubber duck), wet weather bag, and a towel.
• Please fill canteens with water, check pockets for trash (ear plugs, cigarette butts, etc.).
• Test: 15meter swim with ACU’s, boots, LBV, and a dummy M-16.
• Army yearly requirement
Basic Water Survival
• Class is conducted in both shallow end and deep end of pool.
• Uniform: ACU’s and boots, swimsuit and/or PT grays will be worn underneath, wet weather bag, and a towel.
• Please fill canteens with water, check pockets for trash (ear plugs, cigarette butts, etc.).
• Class: 10-20 min. lecture, 15-30min. swim tests, 10-15 min. demonstrations, and 30-45 min. practicals.
• Training Instructors will run training with a minimum of 15 personnel and a maximum of 60 for a two hour block.
CWST (Combat Water Swim Test)
• Conducted in both shallow end and deep end of pool.
• Uniform: ACU’s, boots, LBV, a dummy M-16 (rubber duck), wet weather bag, and a towel.
• Please fill canteens with water, check pockets for trash (ear plugs, cigarette butts, etc.).
• Test: 15m swim with dummy M-16, 3m blind drop, and equipment ditch.
• Units can reserve up to 60 personnel per hour.
HUMVEE or STRYKER Dunker Training (Shallow Water Egress Training)
• Conducted in shallow end of pool.
• Uniform: ACU’s, boots, Kevlar, IBA, and a towel.
• Test: 1. Submerge and egress vehicle. 2. Submerge with door locked, egress opposite door.
• Units can reserve up to 12 personnel per hour.
Lifeguard Training
• Class is conducted in both shallow end and deep end of pool.
• Uniform: swimsuit or shorts, goggles, and a towel.
• Soldiers must be strong swimmers.
• Class is 6-9 hours per day and runs for 3 weeks.
• Morning sessions will be to improve swimming ability and endurance. Afternoon sessions will be skill work.
• Soldiers will receive certifications from American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR for the Professional Rescuer upon successful completion of class.
• At least 6 personnel with no more than 30 personnel are required.
Swim Lessons
• Lessons are conducted in shallow end and/or deep end of pool.
• Uniform: swimsuit or shorts, goggles, and a towel.
• Classes are one-hour long and run for two weeks.
• Instructors can work with all abilities.
• A minimum of 6 personnel and a maximum of 30 personnel. |
