Armed Forces Day
The 20th Annual Armed Forces Day celebration is on May 17 at Cowan Stadium from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. the event will include military displays, kids games, live entertainment food and more! Eagles Pride Golf Courrse Golf Promotion
Eagles Pride Golf Course at Fort Lewis is offering a weekday special, from the May 5 until May 29, this promotion is open to all golfers, and costs only $30.00 per person. The offer includes: Green Fees, a shared cart for 18-holes, and a $10 gift certificate to the Lacey Creek Café. Pet Brigade
Have you ever had trouble trying to figure out where you were going to leave your dog on extended travel? Well worry no longer, the Fort Lewis Post Kennel is OPEN! Services include boarding, grooming, training, and daycare. All at a convenient location near you (near the DuPont Gate I-5 overpass). Mother's Day Brunch
Give the special woman in your life a great treat! On May 11, Mother’s Day, enjoy a special brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Lake Community Center. The cost for adults is $15.95, children (3-10) $7.45 and children 2 and under are free. Reservations are highly suggested. Pride Week Boxing Smoker
If you like a good, fair fight don’t miss out on Pride Week’s Boxing Smoker. Come over the May 6-8 to Wilson Sports and Fitness Center; bell rings at 5 p.m. Round winners move on, while losers hit the canvas. Transportation will be provided. "Kit Kittredge-An American Girl" Library Promotion
Looking for a good way to integrate movies and reading for your children? In conjunction with Picturehouse Films' release of Kit Kittredge, An American Girl on July 2nd, the following Army libraries will display American Girl novels from May – June with a contest to win American Girl books, an American Girl Doll, and a shopping spree to an American Girl Store. Texas Hold 'Em
Texas Hold 'Em is back by popular demand. Starting Thursday, April 17 to June 26 players 18 years of age and over can compete to win exciting prizes while having a great time and honing their hold 'em skills. 2008 Army Arts & Crafts Contest
The Army Arts and Crafts Contest is an annual, juried competition of two and three dimensional artwork held in separate groups for novice and accomplished artists and artisans. Entry submissions to the Region and Department of Army (DA) level will be digital jpg images of the work submitted in the web based program: https://artscrafts.fmwrc.army.mil (login to AKO required) Artwork must be entered in one of the following categories: ceramics, wood, fibers and textiles, glass, metals and jewelry, mixed media - 3D, drawings, prints, water base painting, oil base painting, mixed media -2D. Northwest Adventure Center Open House & Yard Sale
Are you looking to buy great items at reasonable prices? Reserve a space at the annual Outdoor Recreation Open House on May 10 from 9 am to 4 pm. Spaces with tables cost $10 and must be paid in full at time of reservation, located at Bldg 8050 NCO Beach Rd. Call 967-6263 for more information.

National Pet Week
National Pet Week is May 4-10. The McChord Veterinary Clinic is hosting a photo contest, product discounts and has grab bags. Also, watch your pet strut their stuff at the Pet Parade on May 10. Team Lewis Nueve de Mayo
Team Lewis’ Nueve de Mayo celebration presented by FMWR, BOSS, Pioneer Services, Harborstone Credit Union and GEICO Insurance is May 9 at the Cascade Community Center, Building 2400 at the corner of Bitar and S. Division. The fun is from 3 to 6 p.m.; there will be free food (while it lasts), great prizes, fun games and much more. Bunco Time!
The FMWRC is hosting "It's Bunco Time," on May 14, and June 17 at the American Lake Community Center. Bunco is a game of dice, played in rounds. Players take turns rolling the dice and trying to accumulate as many points as possible to win each round.
Each night three rounds of Bunco will be played. Nightly prizes include: Most wins: $75 -$100 value gift card, Most Bunco's: $50 value gift card, Most Losses: $25 -50 value gift card. There will also be random drawings between rounds for smaller prizes and drawings from those who registered prior to the event. Snuggle-up Story time
Book Patch Library is hosting Snuggle-up Story time! This event is the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00- 7:30 p.m. Children three years old and up are invited to this fun story time. Kids can wear pajamas and bring their favorite toy to snuggle with, while they listen to stories and rhymes and sing silly songs. Northwest Military Star
Come out as finalists compete to see who the next Northwest Military Star is going to be? Competition dates are Friday, April 18, 25, and May 2, held at Nelson Recreation at 7:00 p.m. The Fort Lewis winner will compete at the Armed Forces Day competition for a $500 1st place prize. Remember 50 percent of the final score comes from YOU! So be you be the judge and see who is next. For more information call 967-2539.

Tutoring Kids
Fort Lewis will begin a Pilot Program for tutoring kids in grades K-12, from 1530-1730. using college students working on their practicum, these volunteers will help with homework and tutoring. The site for elementary school age will be the elementary schools and middle school students will use the Youth Center. A site for high school students will be announced when located. There is no membership fee; however, all children must register.

Special Olympics Young Athletes Program
The Young Athletes is an innovative sports play program for children with intellectual disabilities ages three through seven. The program is designed to introduce them to the world of sports prior to the Special Olympics eligibility age, eight years old. The event date is May 30 from 3 to 5 p.m., for children 3 to 7-years-old at the Teen Zone, Bldg 2295. Installation Safety Day
May 9 is Installation Safety Day and Pride Week Exhibition. The event is open to the Fort Lewis and McChord military communities at Soldiers Field House, 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There will be displays and demonstrations for all. Stop by to register your bicycle and for lots of giveaways. There are also special appearances by McGruff the Crime Dog and Smokey the Bear throughout the day. Nurse's Week 5K Fun Run
Madigan Army Medical Center is hosting a FREE race. The Nurse’s Week 5K Fun Run is on May 7 at 7:30 a.m., at Keeler Sports Complex. Free t-shirts to the first 350 who show up on race day. There are three ways to sign-up for the race: e-mail nursesweek5k@gmail.com with name, gender, age, phone number and T-shirt size; fill out the form located in the event pamphlet and return it to Lt. Brown at MAMC 6N; or register on race day between 5:30-6:15 a.m.

EFMP Mother's Day Celebration
The Exceptional Family Member Program is hosting its annual Mother’s Day Celebration May 3. Join the party at the Family Resource Center from 1 to 3 p.m., and bring the whole family. Middle School Dance
Come one come all, calling all middle school students. On May 31st from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., there will be a dance for all middle school students (6th to 8th grade) at the Fort Lewis Skating Rink, Bldg. 2275. Fort Lewis Space & National Agency Conference
If you are a Soldier with a Secret Clearance come and attend the Fort Lewis Space and National Agency Conference hosted by I Corps. The conference is May 20-22, at the Battle Command Training Center. There will be a number of guest speakers and discussions designed to support space-based assets to units deployed in support of the Global War on Terror. British Soccer Camp
Are you looking to improve your child’s soccer skills over the summer? Well sign them up for the Challenger Foundation British Soccer Camp! Challenger has developed an innovative method to coaching soccer while focusing on the technical components and key techniques. Bowling Special for Families of deployed Soldiers
Is your Soldier deployed? Do not miss out on bowling fun because Bowl Arena is being renovated. Families of deployed Soldiers can still enjoy up to three free games of bowling at Sounders Lanes Bowling Center located on McChord AFB each Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Shoe rental is included, and there is a limit of three games. Specials for Families of deployed Soldiers
Is your Soldier deployed? Fort Lewis is offering three new programs/activities for Families of deployed Soldiers. Do you have little ones at home? How would you like to have some time to yourself knowing that your children are cared for in a high quality and safe environment? Free child care will be available on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis at Clarkmoor Child Development Center, Building 2095. Parents may make reservations beginning on the Monday, two weeks before the first Saturday opening.  Parents may use one of the two openings and will be able to select which date they prefer when they call to make their reservation. Families of deployed Soldiers are invited to enjoy up to three free games of bowling at the Bowl Arena each Sunday from noon p.m. to 4 p.m. Shoe rental is included, and there is a limit of three games. (continued at McChord during renovation) For additional information, call 967-4661. Arts and Crafts will offer a supervised do-it-yourself pillowcase picture project for children. Bring in a picture of your deployed parent and transfer onto a pillowcase. Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult to participate in free bowling and the arts and crafts project. For information, call the Arts and Crafts Center at 967-5001. These programs are provided by the Center of Excellence, which is sponsored by I Corps and Fort Lewis Garrison. Participating Families will be required to sign in with sponsor's unit information.


Active Duty Soldiers Work Out for FREE at Area YMCAs
Fort Lewis Soldiers have six sports and fitness centers on post to use….. but did you know that Soldiers and other active duty military assigned to Fort Lewis can work out at six local YMCAs for free? Eligible military members can utilize any of six participating YMCAs in Tacoma and Olympia free of charge. It’s as simple as presenting your ID card and registering with the facility. Check with your local YMCA and ask for additional information about the Army’s BIC program or call Ronald Raymond, Fort Lewis Sports & Fitness at 967-2602. All branches of the military assigned and attached to Fort Lewis are eligible to use this program. Reserves and National guard soldiers on active status and assigned to Fort Lewis are eligible. Civilians are not eligible to participate in this program. Family Members of eligible Active Duty Military must pay standard fees and charges.


Family Fitness & Health Program
Jensen Family Health and Fitness Center, Building 2022, runs the Family Fitness & Health Program, Monday through Friday. Free on-site child care on a first come-first served basis is available for children six weeks through 12 years, from 0745-1245 & 1600-1900 Monday through Friday. Appropriate activities and supervision will be provided by qualified CYS care giving staff. Child care is offered while you participate in fitness activities. You must remain on-site while your children are in care. Child care will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Food service will not be provided. A free one-time registration will be completed on-site for this CYS program only. Schedule


Late Nighter
Join MWR at a Late Nighter Sunday, May 25 at the American Lake Community Center. Enjoy R&B and hip-hop music from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Casual attire. The cover charge is $7 for military/DoD ID cardholders and $9 for civilians. For additional information, call 964-0144.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services Workshop
If you have interest in the U.S. citizenship process then come out to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services Workshop sponsored by the Fort Lewis Army Community Service Relocation Readiness Program. The workshop will include sessions about military naturalization process, completing the N-400, G-325B and N-426, waiver and much more. The workshop is May 21, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Military and Soldiers are highly encouraged to attend; the workshop is also open to foreign born spouses. Registration is required; call 967-3633/3550.

Newcomer's Orientation
Come to the Newcomer's Orientation at the American Lake Community Center, located on North Fort, and learn what Fort Lewis has to offer you. Normally held on the last Tuesday of the month. The orientation begins at 9:00 am and lasts until 2:00 pm, and lunch is provided, followed by an "Windshield Tour" of Fort Lewis. For more information call Army Community Services at (253)967-3628.

Giant Campus
Now in its fourth year, Giant Campus, Inc., a nationwide leader in technology training, has expanded its offerings of innovative technology courses for the Fort Lewis community. More than 10,000 Soldiers, DOD Civilians, retirees, and family members have taken advantage of these fantastic classes for adults and kids. Together with MWR, Giant Campus is making it easy for Fort Lewis families to master the computer free-of-charge including courses like web design, Excel, PowerPoint, programming, and more! Courses are currently offered on-site at the Stone Education Center, the North Fort Youth Center, or as self-study classes through our convenient @Home option.
